Dallas Golf

Dallas is one of the fastest-growing city in the United States, adding over 300,000 new residents from 2010-2016. The Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport (DFX) is not only one of the busiest airports in the world, but is also the headquarters of American Airlines. The 1970s-80s television series Dallas, based on the fictional Ewing family and their oil company, remains one of the most-watched shows to this day. Residents of the Big D are especially proud of their sports teams, particularly the NFL Cowboys, MLB Rangers, and NBA Mavericks. Dallas is also a great city for golf. Dallas-Fort Worth is the only metropolitan area that hosts two PGA events every year. The AT&T Byron Nelson has been held at several different venues in the Dallas area since its establishment in 1944. The 2018 edition will be the first held at the Trinity Forest Golf Club in Dallas. The Fort Worth Invitational, formerly the Dean and Deluca Invitational, is the other Dallas-area PGA event. It has been held at the Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth since 1946. Stevens Park Golf Course, aka “Little Augusta,” received a complete makeover in 2011. It is one of the most affordable public courses in the Dallas area, complete with some of the best views of the city. The Texas Star Golf Course in Euless is a must-play for any golf fan passing through the area. Its located outside of all the hustle-and-bustle to provide a relaxing and challenging experience. Dallas Cowboys Golf Course in Grapevine is one of the most impressive golf facilities in the USA, particularly if you are a fans of the NFL team. The course is one of the most expensive in Dallas, but worth it for true golf fans.

Junior Golf In Dallas

The Dallas Junior Golf Championship has been a fixture in the community since 1924. All boys and girls aged 7 to 18 are eligible to participate without any qualifying stipulations. You don’t even have to be from the Dallas area. The tournaments are sponsored by the Exchange Club of East Dallas as of 2018. The Texas Golf Association (TGA), via a grant from the organization’s former Executive Director Bill Penn, supports several youth golf initiatives. The First Tee is one of the initiatives and currently has 17 facilities across the state. The North Texas PGA’s Golf-In-Schools program is also supported by the Penn grant.

Dallas PGA Players

Many LPGA players reside in Dallas today. But Forth Worth’s own Angela Stanford is probably the best known. She turned pro in 2000 and has won five LPGA events as of 2018. Stanford’s best finish in a major was the 2003 U.S. Women’s Open, where she finished tied for second. She finished tied for fourth in the 2004 Women’s PGA Championship, and had a third-place finish at the 2011 ANA Inspiration.
